A week ago, kickboxing superstar Badr Hari appeared on Dutch radio station FunX. He took a series of interesting questions from DJ Fernando on the station’s “Start” morning show.
Hari spoke almost exclusively on his switch from K-1 to boxing. He cited his feeling that he has fulfilled all of his kickboxing accomplishments (despite never winning a K-1 Grand Prix), a lack of “good opponents”, low motivation, and negative image of the sport in the Netherlands as reasons for his decision. He also that he has been pondering the switch for about two years.
“The Golden Boy” also confirmed that he will in fact will be training in America with world renown boxing trainer Nazim Richardson. As for the rumors about Hari training with former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar there was no mention.
Hari’s retirement match will take place on January 28 on the It’s Showtime 55 card. He will face Gokhan Saki, a fighter that he described as a “spectacular” opponent. It will be their second meeting, with Hari having defeated the Turk back in 2004. Their second meeting is sort of ironic, as Gokhan Saki has also expressed interest in moving to boxing, making this a possible dual-retirement match???
